Personal Basketball Experience

I started playing basketball when I was in 2nd grade. I played throughout middle school and kept getting better and better. My dad got me started playing basketball and came to every game. He would help me practice shooting and rebounding since I was a center. I  had a lot of competition in 5th grade because people were getting taller than me and I stopped growing. We won a lot trophies during our season. During one our games it was third quarter and five seconds left. My teammate threw the ball in to one of our centers and he chucked it up to try and hit a half-court shot. He threw it to high and hit one of the lights and broke it. We had a lot of competition but made us better through the season. Our coach put us through rough practices but made us as a team get ready for winning our upcoming tournament. In the scared heart tournament there 8 teams who played on the same day. We played 4 games and won all of them. One of of the games I almost had 20 points but was 6 short. It was the finals and we lost 74-69. Afterwards I was selected for the All-Star game. I hit a three at the beginning of the first quarter. Every time we got fouled our moms took our free throws for us. It was a fun experience and met a lot of new people.

Difference between NBA and WNBA

Other than the NBA being created there is the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association). The WNBA is not as popular as NBA and doesn't get much attention from the media. Some of the rules are changed but mostly they are the same as NBA. The ball size is different by 2 inches because women's hands are not as big as men's and the three point is moved closer to the basket. The WNBA did not get as much attention as the NBA when it first started. In the NBA the players tend to shoot more than in the WNBA . The style of play varies from the the teams personnel which the NBA feature more scoring. The 10 second back-court is not in effect in the WNBA and also have a 30 second shot clock while NBA has a 24 second shot clock. The NBA popularity rate is very greatly differed from the WNBA. WNBA did not start to get popular until the mid 1980's. College basketball is one of the main attractions for people to attend. Ohio State University attracts over 15,000 thousand fans while women's game averages around 3,510 per game ("Difference between Men's and Women's Basketball"). The WNBA still gets the respect they deserve and still continue to play to strive for greatness. NBA is the oldest basketball league to date and WNBA started mid 1980's but only started a year later ("Difference between WNBA and NBA"). NBA originally started out with 30 teams in North America and WNBA started out with 8.

The History of Basketball

Do you think that the U.S.A. could've rejected basketball? The sport basketball has been played for many years. It has spread to many countries around the world. The game is played by various races. The first basketball type game may have been played by early Olmec people 500 years ago. Skulls were used as the ball for the game. January 20th, 1892 in Springfield, Massachusetts the first basketball game took place. "Doctor James Naismith invented the game for the YMCA to play in winter months ("The History of Basketball"). Many people enjoyed watching the sport in many regions. Basketball started growing to be one of the best sports in the world. There were a lot of great coaches and players in the NBA. Local neighborhoods started up their own league to face other teams. "November 7, 1896 the first known professional basketball game took place in Trenton New Jersey between Trenton YMCA and Brooklyn YMCA" ("History of Basketball"). Other leagues across the world started to form basketball teams.  Soon basketball spread to colleges including the NAVY but only a few colleges would participate. In England a certain league got big boost of exposure when they allowed an African American to play. Why do you think that colleges formed their own league? With the season ending 10-4 Yale went on to win the championship. At the time the ref training course were not trained well on fouls. It was close to impossible to have a good ref at every game. Minnesota with their record being 11-0 became the first undefeated basketball team. The college league made their own league because the president warned them that they would be shutdown. Some teams remained independent to travel the world to play for money. These teams were called barnstormers. "These Teams were Original Celtics, SPHA'S, Buffalo Germans, Trojans of New York, two all African American teams, New York Renaissance Five, and the most famous the Harlem Globetrotters" ("History of Basketball").
